Raiders of the Vistula – Pt. 2

Around 2:00 PM you get close to Dirschau.  Boats are intermittently going north and Kapitän Riesman takes the opportunity to trade the news with the crews as they go past.  As the ruined bridge at Dirschau begins to come into view, he tells the pilot to cut the boat's speed in half and summons you all to the hold. Once everyone gathers, Riesman begins, "The good news is they have a path open at the bridge, but its only wide enough for ships to pass in one direction.  So they are letting a few go through one way, then the other.  The bad news is that since the ships have to wait in line, they are rigorously searching each ship.  We have to expect 8-10 soldiers will come on-board and search the ship stem to stern.  I think you will be safest in the smugglers hold, but you should talk that over with Thor.  With the wait and the searching, we can expect a 2-3 hour wait." After a pause, Riesman continues, "I also heard that the Poles have counterattacked the German 8th Army at Bzura to some success.  All the German troops in this area are either moving full-speed south to Bzura or SE to Warsaw, which continues to hold out.  Evidently the Germans have fashioned a one lane bridge across the wreckage and an armored group is crossing it now. It will make things a bit dicey heading south, but if you all have to return north, soldiers will grow increasingly scarce the further you go." You look at the cramped smugglers hold.  Two or three hours is certainly achievable, but it will be an uncomfortable and stifling experience.  Staying above board, while preferable, will most certainly mean a close inspection of your papers. GM Notes:
  • I need to know where everyone wants to be.  If you are in the smuggler's hold, I will assume loaded pistol or Welrod in hand ready to go.
  • Since this week is Thanksgiving week and everyone has a lot going on, we will take things slowly and proceed as people have the chance to respond.  Happy Thanksgiving to everyone.
